About Us

Our Approach

As technology becomes a prominent part of our every day lives, it is essential for one to understand ideas behind engineering. Scratch paved the way for literacy in engineering by encompassing the main ideas in STEM through an easy-to-learn programming language. The 10-week course sparks excitement, curiosity, and a sense of fulfillment as the students go through the course. The ultimate goal being to turn this new material into a hobby into a passion.

Our Story

Learning From Scratch started when William, the Founder of Learning From Scratch, was coding his own video games. When his younger brother Max began to ask questions about computer programming, William taught his brother through a course he found online. Max loved the idea of being able to make his own games and, in no time, got the hang of Scratch. While the course did the job for the time being, it was outdated because Scratch had been updated. This is when the idea to create his own course came to mind. He decided to create presentations that were easy to digest for a younger audience. His first group of students was in Kaufman Center’s Special Music School where he taught a group of ten students Scratch.

Next Steps…

Being partnered with more schools and involving girls, underrepresented minorities, and low-income students is a goal of ours because the STEM field is not reaching its full potential due to a lack of inclusion of people from all backgrounds.
